Seventeen Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs) have been established in each of a major states to meet the country's growing requirements for trained technical manpower for Development courses in various branches of Engineering and Technology, 14 of these have facilities for post-graduate (P.G) and doctoral programmes. The entire non-recurring expenditure for the RECs are borne by the Central Government.
Apart from Under-graduate programmes, R.E.Cs offer a number of P.G programmes leading to the award of ME, MBA and MCA degrees. These includes regular programmes as well as part -time P.G programmes for working professionals. Full-time P.G programmes pursued after qualifying GATE examinations are provided with scholarships.
