Remote controlling of devices is one such area where technology has improved
so much that the devices can be controlled from several metres away. Remote
burglar alarms for cars: T. V, VCR -remotes etc. are a few examples.
The project attempts to control a few functions of the computer using
the T. V. remote The circuit consists of the IC TSOP1738, which works
in the frequency range of 30-80 kHZ .It needs only a 5 V- supply voltage
and draws a current of less than 2 mA. Thus ,it is be powered directly
from the serial interface.
The circuit also makes use of a 78L05 voltage regulator IC. The supply
voltage is taken from the DTR and RTS outputs of the RS232 interface,
which are connected together via the isolating diodes. A voltage of around
10 V is activated here using a program running on the PC.
If the IR receiver IC receives an IR signal modulated at 36 KHz, it produces
an output signal on its middle pin with an active -low level. These output
pulses are connected directly to the CTS lead, where must be decoded using
software. A supplementary pull-up resistor is necessary here, since the
CTS lead has a relatively low input resistance. The signal is also inverted
by a transistor stage and applied to the RxD Input of the serial Interface.
Features
1. High operating range of 10 meters.
2. Wide angle of reception
3. Any RC5 coded Television Remote can be used.
4. Does not require external power supply.
